Black Mamba Theatre is excited to announce their inaugural production of Martin McDonagh’s award winning play, The Pillowman.
The narrative follows Katurian, a fiction writer living in a totalitarian state, who is interrogated by two detectives about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to recurring child murders in his town. All evidence finds Katurian and his deranged brother Michal guilty under penalty of death. Backed into a corner, Katurian engages in a desperate battle to save all he has left – his stories.
This dark tale, combined with a sharp ensemble and the claustrophobic Right Brain Project Theatre space in Ravenswood, will immerse our audience into the confines of a totalitarian holding cell. Our audience dives into the rabbit hole of twisted stories, gallows humor, and murder, masterfully created by Martin McDonagh. Directed by Jeff Newman. Starring: Neil Edwards, Gary Murphy, Derek Dziak, and Greg Mehl. Also featuring: Loren Jones, Molly Wallace, and Johnny Kalita (Founder and Artistic Director of Black Mamba Theatre).

Loren Jones (The Mother) is so pumped to be a part of this first production with BMT. After going to stunt school in 2007, she worked in Pennsylvania and China doing live stunt shows until moving to Chicago in 2012. Since then, she has worked on such fight shows as 3Halos (Roz), two different productions of A History of Violence (Edie/Cowboy, Bare Knuckle Productions), Zombie Seinfeld (Elaine), Witch Slap! (Novella, Babes with Blades), and CHARGER. When not on stage, Loren does motion capture work for Call of Duty and her television credits include episodes of Chicago PD and Sirens. She is a member of SAG/AFTRA and a proud graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University. Much love and thanks to my parents for their endless support.
Johnny Kalita (The Father) has worked in Chicago for the past 5 years as an actor. He has trained extensively in improvisation and the Meisner technique. Jeff Newman (Director) After earing his BFA in acting from Wright State University's Professional Actor Training Program in Dayton, OH, Jeff returned to his hometowm of Kansas City, MO where he staged his original one person show Sirens and Superheares with the Kansas City Fringe Festival. Gary Murphy (Tupolski) Kudos to Johnny and company on launching Black Mamba Theatre with best wishes for many succesful and satisfying future productions. And of course many thanks for inviting me to perform in this challenging and provocative inaugural show. The comical moments in The Pillowman are also some of its edgiest, which often found me wondering whether or not I should be laughing. No doubt our audiences will be wondering the same thing. Mission accomplished. Gary's most recent stage roles were as Eddie Kurnitz in Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers for Artists Walk Theatre and the despicable Carl Fogerty in Bare Knuckle Productions' History of Violence. Thanks, love, and big hugs to Marnie. It's always somethin'.
